I recently saw a Myres-Briggs-styled test on a friend’s blog with the following caption:
Your personality is the rarest
A little while ago I wrote about pop-psychology and the search for meaning and self. By answering just twelve questions, this test will tell you who you are. Obviously, I couldn’t resist the temptation!
Your Personality is Very Rare (INFP) |
![]() Your personality type is dreamy, romantic, elegant, and expressive.Only about 5% of all people have your personality, including 6% of all women and 4% of all men You are Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving. |
I thought these results were rather flattering. It uses nice words to describe me in a very personal way using something that looks like scientific methodology - so it must be true! I particularly like the leading question that appeals to everyone’s ego:
How rare is your personality?
So, if there are approximately 20,264,082 people living in Australia, 1,013,204 people share this personality type.
Rare?! Yeah, sure.
The test is by a group calling themselves Blogthings. Their slogan is simply:
Cool things to put in your blog
They have a few other cool things you can put on your blog like “what art movement are you“, “are you a control freak“, and “how normal are you”?
Do we need to put things like this into our blogs to attract readers so that Blogthings can make some money from clickthroughs? Yes, my blog is so boring to my readers that I need something cool to attract more people to it!!!
Maybe I’m just being a blog-purist. Maybe I’m just being sarcastic. Maybe it’s just early in the week. Maybe it’s because I’ve only had one cup of coffee and maybe I just need another.

Ah memes. They are a load of BS, yes. I usually classify them as procrastination, or a bit of fluffy fun either gakked from or tagged from friends.
Now, have that other cup of coffee.
