Wondering what conferences are on this year? I’ve finished booking in my speaking engagements for the next 6 months:
User-centred design and iterative prototyping
21-22 July – BA World Symposium, Melbourne and 24-25 July in Sydney
So where are the users in your project’s methodology? In this presentation, I’ll introduce user-centred design methodology and its place in adaptive, iterative design project methodology.
This will be the same talk in both cities since there’s no one I can think of who will go to both these events (except maybe me and Maria who is also presenting)
‘The Intranet is dead! Long live the Intranet!’
21-22 Aug -Local Government Web Network
(I think this is going to be my favourite presentation for the last half of the year)
Technology comes and goes like the reign of kings and queens. Just as Queen Elizabeth came to the throne, heralding a Golden Age of exploration and innovation, intranets trumpeted the coming of the renaissance of an Online Information Age for rapid communication of ideas and sharing knowledge. But a decade on, did many of our efforts actually meet our expectations or have intranets just become the jester of the court of corporate knowledge repositories?
At this conference, I’ll look the reign of the intranet and examine where we’ve been, where we are now, and what might lie beyond the Web 2.0 door.
Psych your mind!
20-21 Sept – Oz-IA 2008 (TBC)
By drawing on my recent experience working with an old-school print magazine (currently confirming whether they’ll let me use their name in the case study), I’ll look at how some organisations are stepping into the world of Social Computing. I’ll look at how IAs are perfectly placed to help architect social- rather than information-spaces by drawing on elements from social psychology, organisational culture to create awsome information architecture and social computing interaction strategies.
KM2.0 – Myth or Legend?
14-15 Oct – ACTKM08
I’ll look at Web 2.0, with a particular focus on how it supports social interaction in knowledge management activities – networking, collaboration and storytelling.

Nov – Web Standards Group
Ruth Elison and I are presenting together for the first time! We’re yet to agree what we’re going to present on though!
Middle-child syndrome
Dec – ABAA Christmas Drinks
This year has been one for navel gaving within the discipline of Business Analysis. Are we all going to become PMs? Is the future of BAs in EA? Why do we care?
I’ll take a look at the hot topics coming out of the practice this year and take a look at where we might be headed, particularly in light of “defining the damned thing”.
